Ken Nielsen, P.E.
Ken Nielsen is a licensed professional engineer with over 40 years’ experience in manufacturing, engineering and construction. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MSU and serves as president of The Nielsen Group. a consulting engineering firm with a focus on energy reduction. Our services include but are not limited to energy audits, efficiency improvements, utility rebates, certifications, feasibility studies, process engineering, project development, project management and technical due diligence.
Clients include forest products, minerals, power, manufacturing, biofuels, green chemistry, food & beverage, schools, hospitals and commercial facilities. The Nielsen Group is familiar with both conventional and renewable energy. During his career, Ken Nielsen has saved employers and clients over $100 million in energy costs.
A native Detroiter, Doug is a business professional with an extensive record of achievement driving sales and profitability through a focus on marketing, public relations, team building and exceptional customer service. In 2011 he co-founded Detroit, Michigan based Greenlancer.com, a cloud-based solar energy design service and one of the Quicken Loans family of companies. More recently, he has become an advocate for PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) financing and partnered with Newman Consulting Group LLC, a internationally recognized team of experts in commercial and industrial energy management, to help building owners and facility managers implement energy conservation measures without huge capital expenses.
Amanda is owner of Ecotelligent Homes located in Farmington Hills, MI. Ecotelligent Homes is a home performance contractor that conducts comprehensive home energy audits, and installs customized insulation and heating cooling improvements for homes throughout Metro-Detroit.
Frank Schulmeister, CEM, CEA, CLEP
Frank is Vice President of Energy Sciences Resource Partners, LLC based out of Birmingham, MI. He has over 25 years of energy experience in demand side and supply side energy management for utility operations, building energy management, performance contracting and international consulting in the commercial, industrial, retail and institutional sectors.
Sustainability Specialist, LEED Green Associate

Katie started as a Sustainability Specialist at Duro-Last Inc. in the summer of 2014. Here she leads the development and implementation of corporate sustainability priorities and strategies for the companies under JRB Enterprises. Her role involves partnering with internal stakeholders including Operations, Purchasing, Sales, Research and Development, and Engineering to help meet the company’s sustainability objectives.
Previously, Katie worked at Haworth, Inc. on the Global Sustainability team where she supported product certifications, ISO 14001, and LEED projects.
Katie graduated from Aquinas College in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Sustainable Business.
Walter serves as the vice president at Development Solutions in Temperance, MI. Development Solutions provides solutions for energy, quality, safety and projects. Walter has over 27 years of manufacturing experience covering all aspects of operations. He has been successful in improving profits for his clients and employers throughout his career.
Todd has his own energy services company, Efficient NRG Services and is the program coordinator for the Michigan SAVES commercial loan program.
Shannon comes to MEECA having worked in the energy efficiency space in state government, for a non-profit and now as Director of Strategy at Solutions for Energy Efficient Logistics (SEEL) located in Detroit, MI.
Bill serves as DNV GL’s Operations Manager for the DTE Energy Efficiency Program for Business, and has nearly a quarter-century of experience in the areas of manufacturing, R&D, analysis and energy efficiency. Bill leads a Detroit team of 40 engineers, inspectors, analysts, marketing and outreach professionals and administrators. His team has met DTE’s energy efficiency program goals every year since the program’s inception in 2009. He is certified in electronic engineering technology and project management.
