A Lone Stroll Through the Legislature
Though not as relaxing as a stroll on one of Michigan's great beaches, the stroll Michigan has been on attempting to secure our energy future has certainly been a long one.
With the Legislature on their summer break starting in the second week of June, MEECA continues to monitor and react to the saga that is becoming Senate Bills 437 & 438. Read Michigan's
Energy Saga Continues below for an update as to where we are now. The status of utility energy efficiency programs is trending in a positive direction.
MEECA is hosting a Member Mixer on June 30th from 5:30PM - 7:30PM at Keller Plaza located at 100 E. Grand River Ave., Williamston, MI. MEECA's president, Walt Dindoffer is our featured speaker
and Frank Accavitti, Jr. our special guest. Come hear what these thought leaders in Michigan's energy efficiency industry have to say about continuous commissioning and plans to win the U.S.
Congressional 10th District seat. This event is part of the DNV GL Trial Membership Program that brought in almost 30 members into the Association. Plan to attend. There is no fee,
but contributions are always accepted.
We partnered again with Resource Media via a webinar featuring Amy Frykman sharing their insight on how to effectively message energy efficiency to building owners. Check out her
presentation below.
Lastly, as July is right around the corner, please know MEECA is taking a break from July 18th - July 29th. Brindley will be taking a vacation with his family and Katie will be heading to a
family gathering during this timeframe. We of course will be continuing on some MEECA projects, but not readily available these two weeks. There will be no July Maven.
Now back to that long stroll on a beach...from all of us at MEECA to all of you and yours...please find some time to get to a beach or other place of rejuvenation. The summer will heat-up as
will the Legislature upon their return in September. We will need to be fully recharged and ready when they do.
Have a great month of July!
Sincerely,
Brindley Byrd

Michigan's Energy Saga Continues
By: Brindley Byrd
On May 25th, 2016 the Senate Energy & Technology Committee passed SB437 (S-3) with the vote being 6-1-3. Senator Mike
Shirkey (R) voted against this bill and the three Democrat Senators all passed on voting. For SB438 (S-3) the vote was a straight party-line vote of 7-0-3. The Democrats passing is a
strong indication of their dissatisfaction with the bills. Senator Nofs then started his efforts to see these bills get voted on by the Senate as a whole before their summer
break.

Report Leads to Clean
Energy Manufacturing in MI
By: Katie Graham
The Clean Energy Manufacturing Roadmap is
a joint effort between the State of Michigan and Northeast Ohio, focusing on developing strategies for advancing energy manufacturing and potential building efficiency. It's always good to be
reminded about Michigan's manufacturing past. As many of our members know manufacturing facilities have significant opportunities for energy savings. Some of our members are experts at helping
specific manufacturers increase net profit while reducing imbedded energy into the products they manufacture. This report shows that the opportunities that come with
a more efficient manufacturing sector will ultimately strengthen and build Michigan's integrated energy efficiency industry.
